Love Kuching Project

Love Kuching Project was founded in 2009 as Ubi Kuching Project, when a stray mother cat came up to the home of Elaine Chiam and Andy Koh, our founders. We partnered with neighbourhood cat lovers and volunteer fosterers to get rescued pets put up for adoption, and a local pet supply store, Angels Pet Shop, helped us with boarding space for rehabili... tating some of our rescues. The major problem back then was unsterilised cats, as Elaine tells the Straits Times : "Cats would roam the neighbourhoods unneutered, staking their territories with fights and urine, and there would also be kittens and chronically ill or elderly cats abandoned by their owners... There were always new cats and the vicious circle would keep repeating itself." Elaine and Andy eventually renamed Ubi Kuching Project to Love Kuching Project in 2010, when we extended our community activism beyond the 50 or so HDB blocks that make up the Ubi neighbourhood. We were formally registered as a society on 26th December 2014. Now in our tenth year, Love Kuching Project is working to continue its mission to rehabilitate community cats in its shelter and promoting the love of cats through cat therapy.
