Lost Ruby Farm

The benefit to being a small business is the direct interaction we have with our customers at farmer's markets or here on the farm. We want you to know where your food comes from and we like to explain as much about the process as we can. We feel transparency is essential and sustainability is critical. When we started Lost Ruby Farm we came up wit... h a list of values and goals that would guide us. We revisit them annually to keep the focus on what matters and to identify and address new goals, and to help us re-prioritize as we succeed in reaching our already stated ones. We seek to raise each thing (plants, animals, children) in an ecologically sustainable way. We strive to improve the ecological balance of our land by using the animals to condition and fertilize the soil. We hope to be an example of sustainable living on a small farm. We prioritize health (physical and mental) of ALL the inhabitants. We choose to cultivate and live in a community of like-minded people. We maintain the highest standards of hygiene and sanitation in our cheese production. We happily welcome visitors to our farm. We aim to provide opportunities for education and participation. We commit to growing only to a level that both our family AND the land can sustain. We value and prioritize relationships with family and friends. We choose to expand our customer base through word of mouth generated by the quality of our products rather than advertising. We produce cheese and other products in as natural a manner as possible, with respect for the animals and for the land. We feed organic grain and our own organic hay. We use herbal dewormer and limit antibiotic use to acute medical conditions only. We allow our animals space and time to behave as they would in the wild and willingly limit the number of animals we have to match the capacity of the land.Read More
