Staff and volunteers provide a listening ear and support which meets the urgent emotional and physical need of callers who are victims and survivors of physical, mental, verbal, emotional, sexual abuse, rape or incest to increase their physical and emotional safety (safety planning, community resources/referrals, available legal services, etc.). Ev... ery client we serve has a program individually customized and coordinated according to her unique situation, her abuser, her children, her family background, her age, her religious beliefs and her culture. Individual sessions are provided to help her work towards emotional and mental well-being, to stabilize the crisis she is in because of the abuse until all of her issues are clarified and her action plans have been established. Intensive professional treatment, evaluation of mental health needs and emotional support in crisis arising from the occurrence of abuse for victims and their children. For women in the Christian Community, spiritual counseling is available upon request. Clients are connected with various community resources (locating emergency financial assistance; intervention with employers, creditors, etc. on their behalf; assistance in filing for losses covered by public and private insurance programs, including workman's compensation, unemployment benefits, TANF, etc. Services and follow-up are continued until all needs of our client are either met or unable to be met. Group sessions are facilitated in an atmosphere where victims have the opportunity to explore their feelings and discussions with peers who may be struggling with similar issues. Videos and group discussions help participants gain new insights and perspective for their lives in a supportive and non-threatening environment. Clients are assisted with filing temporary restraining orders and can be accompanied to court if requested. Legal Services of Eastern Missouri and referral attorneys assist with other legal issues.
