Lieder Theatre Company

The Lieder Theatre Company is the oldest, continually running theatre company in Australia. Established in 1891 as the Goulburn Liedertafel Society it has evolved to provide the focus for performing arts in the GOULBURN REGION. The Company currently produces a broad range of quality theatre which is entertaining, educational and innovative in its r... ole; welcomes,acknowledges and responds to the needs and interests of the whole community. Four mainstage productions as well as a variety of experimental, devised, youth and theatre-in-education productions are presented by the Company each year. It offers opportunities for training, the hosting of touring productions in the Lieder Theatre, and as one of the founding members of OZIATA, represents Australia at international festivals and conferences. The Company provides a valuable bridge for young people to further their arts training and employment, and whole-heartedly supports and applauds all innovative and arts-related initiatives undertaken by local youth. In 1993 the LIEDER YOUTH THEATRE COMPANY was formed as a subcommittee of the Goulburn Liedertafel Inc. Young people still remain an integral part of community productions, receiving on-the-job training in performance, technical and production skills. The Youth Company produces one major performance project each year along with numerous street, experimental and circus performances throughout the community.
