THE WEST ISLAND LGBTQ2+ CENTRE SEEKS TO... ...provide a safe space for LGBTQ2+ youth, adult... s, seniors, and families to socialize and foster inclusiveness ...offer educational programs for LGBTQ2+ people and for the wider community in schools, senior's homes and various institutions The West Island LGBTQ2+ Centre is the only LGBTQ2+ resource in the West Island region of Montreal. The Centre has a series of programs that cater to different demographics within the community. Founded in 2011, the LGBTQ Youth Centre was the inaugural program of the Centres, and was aimed at youth between the ages of 14 and 21. The ages were changed when the Centre's programs amalgamated. Our West Island Rainbow Seniors (50+) program began operating in 2013 to address a newly recognized need within our community. We also added a Friends and Family Support Group that year. In 2016, we added a Young Adult Social drop-in to cater to people aging out of our Youth program. Until that point, all of these programs operated independently from each other. They had two separate boards, staff, and charitable statuses. Recognizing that this decreased our ability to serve our community uniformly and sustainably, the two boards agreed to amalgamate all of our programs together under one banner. From 2017 on, all the programs were merged into being under one board. This allowed all of the programs to begin to operate in conjunction to each other, become more solid in their programming, and begin to plan activities. Interested in joining our board of directors?
