The Lermond Company is a women-owned family company, with a history rooted deep in the flavor and fragrance industry. The Lermond family has been sourcing raw materials for the flavor and fragrance industry for nearly 7 decades. The history begins with Raymond A. Lermond. In the 1940s, Raymond began his career in the industry as a salesperson for V... . & E. Kohnstamm, Inc. of Brooklyn, New York. In the late 1940s Raymond moved his young family to Jalapa, Mexico where he expanded V. & E. Kohnstamm, Inc.'s sales in the region. After two years, Raymond moved home to New Jersey and continued his career in the industry as a buyer for Magnus, Mabee & Reynard, Inc. of New York City. In the early 1950s, Raymond was offered the opportunity to begin working as a salesperson for The John D. Walsh Company, a New York City based agent and broker of essential oils. Raymond eventually purchased the company in 1952, a move that would ensure the Lermond family's involvement in the flavor and fragrance industry for generations to come. In 1970, Raymond's son, Gregory S. Lermond, joined him at The John D. Walsh Company, Inc., after graduating from Villanova University and subsequently serving in the Vietnam War. Raymond and Gregory worked side by side out of their New York City offices, and moved the company across the Hudson River to Glen Rock, New Jersey in 1976. Gregory's contributions to the industry over his 45 year career are vast and numerous. In March of 1982, Gregory lead The John D. Walsh Company, Inc. in becoming a founding member of the International Federation of Essential Oils and Aroma Trades (IFEAT). From 1989 through 1994, Gregory served as a member of the Board of Directors of the Fragrance Materials Association of the USA (FMA), now the International Fragrance Association, of North America (IFRA, NA).
