Leiths School

The school moved to new, larger premises in January 2008; 16-20 Wendell Road London W12 9RT. It has a purpose-built demonstration theatre, seating 40, and 4 fully-equipped teaching kitchens, each accommodating 16 students. A disciplined, hard-working establishment, it is a creative and informal environment in which to learn. Leiths teaching staff are trained professionals with first-hand experience of restaurants and commercial catering. Renowned chefs, cookery writers and Masters of Wine regularly demonstrate or lecture at the School. The School was initially intended as a training centre for chefs for the ever-expanding Leiths catering enterprise that Prue Leith had begun in 1969. In 1993, Prue Leith sold the School and catering business to Eurest, which was later bought by Compass Group PLC. In 1994, Caroline Waldegrave and Christopher Bland bought Leiths School back from Compass. The School has diversified its offerings to include Leiths List (an agency for chefs) and Leiths Innovation (a consultancy service). Additionally, they also franchise the Introductory Certificate in Food and Wine through Leiths Academy. After 33 years Caroline Waldegrave retired as Managing Director and became non-executive director on the board of Leiths. Camilla Schneideman (who trained at Leiths) became Leiths' Managing Director in 2008. In 2017, after the loss of Sir Christopher Bland, Jennie Bland became Chairman of Leiths.
