LearnHQ is a collaborative project of the Southern Ontario Library Service, Ontario Library Service - North and the Ontario Library Association, and is made possible through the $15 Million Dollar Investment In Public Libraries from the Ministry of Tourism, Culture, and Sport. Working as partners, our goal is to develop a site for Ontario public li... brary staff and trustees that brings together the training and professional resources of all three organizations. Moreover, we are committed to linking these learning opportunities to professional competencies, both for individual career planning, and for libraries looking to achieve specific organizational goals. In the near future, we plan to include learning opportunities and resources from other public libraries, library associations, agencies, graduate schools and library technicians programs. Here's a brief summary of how we got here: 2009-2011 - The $15 Million Dollar Investment In Public Libraries was used to fund the "Libraries 2020" symposium in 2009 and the subsequent report by Wendy Newman, "Emerging from the Symposium: Libraries 2020 and Province-Wide Consultation". The symposium and the report identified a number of future priorities and four collaborative initiatives, including an "integrated approach to training" for library staff, covering the whole spectrum of training, from basic skills to leading-edge developments. 2010-2013 - With this in mind, we did initial research on the library training and the viability of using a learning management system. We then engaged a consultant, Overlap, to review the learning management system market, solicit input from libraries and library organizations across the province on their learning needs, and develop a list of functional requirements for our new site. 2013 - 2014 - Through an RFP process, Intrafinity (now Talentova) was chosen as the learning management system host.
