About Lay Community
The Lay Community of St. Benedict is a community dedicated to the Gospel and the spirituality of St. Benedict as lived out by lay people. The community has its origins in the Worth Abbey Lay Community, a lay organisation formerly based at the Benedictine abbey of Worth in West Sussex, UK. The community was granted independence from Worth Abbey in August 2003. The Abbot of Worth, Fr. Christopher Jamison, said: "Worth Abbey Lay Community has been an integral part of the ministry offered by the abbey for more than 30 years, but it has now been set free to broaden the scope of its apostolate. However, we shall continue to maintain spiritual friendship with the new movement." In response to the call of Christ, we seek to: live holy communion; create holy space; offer holy service.
