Lawrence Intermediate School

Allison Kershner is an active music educator and performer in New Jersey and Pennsylvania. She earned her B.M. in Music Education from The College of New Jersey. She also studied trumpet performance at The University of the Arts and Peabody Conservatory of Music. She holds teaching certifications in both New Jersey and Pennsylvania. Allison has bee... n an instrumental music teacher since 1996. She taught Middle School and High School Band in Edison, NJ from 1996-2003. While at Thomas Jefferson Middle School in Edison, NJ, she developed more performance opportunities for students including a 6th Grade Band, Wind Ensemble, Jazz Band and a full Orchestra. She also developed small ensembles to encourage students to participate in solo performances. In June, 1999, Allison was excited to move to John P. Stevens High School where she became the co-director of Bands. She was responsible for co-directing the Marching Band and 9th Grade Band, while directing the Symphonic Band and Lab Jazz Band. While at John P. Stevens, her bands received many accolades at regional and state festivals. Allison temporarily left full-time teaching in June, 2003, to stay home with her children. Although she wasn't teaching full-time, she was an active music educator. Allison taught Music Together Classes ( http://musictogether.com ) in Blue Bell, Pennsylvania and gave private trumpet lessons to students in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania. Allison went back to teaching music full-time in 2012 at Lawrence Intermediate School in Lawrenceville, New Jersey. While at Lawrence Intermediate School she directed the Concert Band, Jazz Band, Orchestra and Chamber Strings. During her tenure in Lawrenceville, Allison increased the enrollment of the program to include one third of the school population participating in Instrumental Music.
