LESA's Information Services (IS) division's mission is to provide useful, accurate, sustainable systems and services to the law enforcement and criminal justice communities and the public. LESA's IS division may be most recognized for providing public services such as concealed pistol license, public records requests and fingerprinting, as well as... criminal history inspections, accident report requests, visa clearance statements, and specialized forest product harvesting permits. Information Services provides personal customer service at the public counter four days a week (Monday and Wednesday through Friday), excluding holidays. As directed by LESA Executive Board resolution, there may be fees for some services. Behind-the-scenes, IS provides law enforcement and criminal justice services 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. As an information custodian, IS maintains various reports and records for the Pierce County Sheriff's Department and the Tacoma, Lakewood, University Place and Edgewood, Roy and Ruston Police Departments*. This includes the receipt, duplication, distribution, filing and storing of information, as well as the auditing and validating of information, and the maintenance of retention and destruction schedules. Personnel also operate a 24-hour data radio channel. Additionally, a team of developers, project managers, network engineers and client services technicians work together to deliver technology solutions to meet the needs of demanding law enforcement and criminal justice endeavors, including LESA's own operations. For instance, LESA's records management system (RMS), which was developed in-house and fully automates National Incident Based Reporting System (NIBRS) standards, is a complete regional solution that provides a seamless flow of data.
