Established in 1923. Mission The Mission of the Lapeer District Library is to provide and promote public access to information. Vision The Lapeer District Library exists to provide and promote public access to information through a quality collection of materials reflecting all viewpoints and services which fulfill educational, cultural and recreat... ional needs of the community. Values The Lapeer District Library strives to create an atmosphere that is welcoming, respectful and professional. The Lapeer Public Library Board was established by the Lapeer City Commission in August 1921. A Carnegie grant was received to build the public library building at the intersection of M-21 & M-24 and the doors opened to that building on February 22, 1923. In 1977, the Lapeer City Library became the main branch of the Lapeer County Library. Hadley and Goodland Branches were subsequently opened. The main branch was renamed the Marguerite deAngeli Branch on August 22, 1981 in honor of the Lapeer-born, award-winning children's book author and illustrator. In 2003, the Lapeer County Library became the Lapeer District Library, an independent government unit serving 13 townships (Arcadia, Burlington, Burnside, Deerfield, Elba, Goodland, Hadley, Lapeer, Marathon, Mayfield, Metamora, Oregon & Rich townships) and the City of Lapeer.Read More
