The story of Bath cement begins in our quarry just north of the plant. There, Lafarge employees quarry limestone, which is crushed and carried to the plant by a conveyor system 1.5 kilometres long. At the plant, the raw materials are mixed and heated to over 1450 degrees Celsius a temperature a quarter that of the surface of the sun in the plants kiln where it becomes clinker. When the clinker emerges from the kiln, it is cooled, mixed with gypsum, and ground into a fine powder known as portland cement.
