La Escuelita

When Andrea observed the lack of Spanish immersion options in Early Childhood Education in New Orleans, the idea of La Escuelita was born. She is originally from Barcelona, Spain, and came to New Orleans in 2010 to work as Foreign Associate Teacher. Andrea has ten years of experience working with elementary school children. After four years of teac... hing 1st Grade Spanish Immersion in New Orleans, in 2016 her attention shifted to Early Childhood Education. She was captivated by the innate abilities of young children to learn and develop their motor and linguistic skills. Andrea holds a BA in Elementary Education with a specialization in Special Education from the University of Oviedo, in Spain. Her continuous education in Early Childhood includes training in Non-Directive Education with the Proyecto Integral León Dormido in Ecuador and Free Motor Development with the Pikler-Lóczy Institute from Budapest. When she isnt at La Escuelita, you can find her biking around New Orleans or taking long walks on the levee. Ana Maria Joachim is originally from Bogot, Colombia, and came to the United States in 2016 to gain more professional experience. She has been a preschool teacher for about 10 years, although she has also taught English to high school students in Bogot. While living in Tennessee, she volunteered with Centro Hispano to help members of an indigenous Guatemalan tribe improve their written and oral Spanish skills. Ana Maria earned a bachelor's degree in English, French and Spanish from the Universidad de La Salle in Bogot. She recently completed a masters degree in Romance Languages with a specialization in Spanish from the University of New Orleans.
