KPHI Studios

KPHI is an Internet radio station that plays music and provides public service announcements. KPHI is a non-profit, non-commercial station supported solely by volunteers. Do you wonder why this Internet radio station has terrestrial call letters? KPHI was originally planned to be a low power FM radio station (LPFM). But the large radio corporations... felt threatened by LPFM stations and used their money to lobby against them. Ultimately, the government was influenced enough to place restrictions on LPFM stations that made it impractical for KPHI to operate as one. KPHI dropped pursuing its LPFM application (which was later dismissed by the government), and turned its attention towards the Internet. KPHI received a certificate of recognition for support to the Hispanic Community which was awarded at the anniversary dinner of Nuestro Mundo. KPHI was honored by Mayor Rocky Anderson and the Attorney General of Utah, Mark Shurtleff. KPHI is an extension of Summum Welfare Industries (SWI). Both KPHI and SWI are subsidiaries of Summum, a 501(c)(3), non-profit, spiritual organization. Since 1975, Summum and SWI have supported communities of Utah and Southern California, and even Central America. Over the years, our projects have spanned a range of services: Working farm land to grow food for community food banks. Assisting the needy by the distribution of food, clothing, and household goods. Managing a Feral cat colony (the care of unwanted cats). Providing service projects for disabled students. Offering classes in meditation for well being and spiritual development. All these services have been made possible by volunteer help and support from businesses and private individuals. And as long as the support remains, we will continue to provide such services.
