Knox Law emphasizes the fields of Criminal Law, Family Law, Prison Law and specific civil litigation fields. Mr. Knox graduated (B.A.) from the University of California (Irvine) in 1979, from the University of Southern California (M.A.) in 1982, and from Dalhousie Law School in 1985. He has appeared in the Provincial Court of Manitoba; in the Provi... ncial, Supreme and Appeal courts in Nova Scotia and New Brunswick; and in the Federal Court of Canada. Mr. Knox acted as counsel for one of the "interested parties" in the 2005-06 Nunn Commission of Inquiry (into the death of Theresa McEvoy), and for a testifying witness during the 2009-2010 Hyde Inquiry (the Fatality Inquiry into the Death of Howard Hyde.). In the field of civil trial practice and noteworthy recent cases, Mr. Knox represented LMM v AGNS (2009) at trial and at appeal in the Supreme Court of Nova Scotia. Similarly, Mr. Knox represented ABC v. AGNS (2011) at trial in the Supreme Court of Nova Scotia. Mr. Knox's criminal law practice involves the Criminal Code of Canada, the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act, and other criminal and quasi-criminal legislation, including provincial securities legislation. Recent noteworthy Criminal Code of Canada cases include R. v. Clarke, Colpitts and Potter: In 2013, Mr. Clarke applied for relief under the Canadian Charter of Rights, seeking state funded counsel to assist in his defense against securities charges under the Criminal Code. Mr. Knox is a member of the Nova Scotia Barristers' Society, the Canadian Prison Law Association, the International Criminal Bar Association, the Nova Scotia Criminal Lawyers' Association, the Seventh Step Society of Canada, and the Canadian Bar Association.
