Knightswood Secondary School

Knightswood Secondary School is one of Glasgow's largest six year co-educational and non-denominational schools and is situated in the West End of the city. The school serves a rich mix of communities along with its associated Early Years establishments and the Primary Schools of Knightswood, Blairdardie, Bankhead, Garscadden, Scotstoun and Yoker.... The school dates back to 1958 and, in 1998, was amalgamated with Victoria Drive on the present site. A unique feature of the school is that it incorporates the Dance School of Scotland which is the national centre of excellence for Dance and Musical Theatre and provides outstanding vocational training for young people from all over Scotland. The school was refurbished in 2001 and a new dance complex was incorporated. Consequently the facilities are, in the main very good, with spacious accommodation. The school also manages a residence for Dance School students, and some learners from Douglas Academy's Music School. A new residence, built within the school campus, opened in August 2015. It houses 90 boarders and secures the national status and equality of oppof this centre of excellence. Our school community currently has just under 1300 young people, 90 teaching staff and a team of support staff, including our Residence care team. The school has a capacity of 1400. Our learners experience a broad, balanced curriculum leading to a full range of SQA qualifications and wider achievements and have numerous opportunities to develop the 4 capacities and in all 4 contexts of learning. Most young people continue into S5 and many also go on to complete S6. We enjoy close and highly effective links with many partners including, our Learning Community Early Years and Primary establishments, Anniesland Campus of Glasgow Clyde College, Glasgow Life, Strathclyde and Glasgow Universities and various business partners.
