Khagendra

We are a non- profit making organisation, caring for 80 residents, situated 8 Kms from Kathmandu, Nepal. Nepal Disabled Association is the first organisation caring for people with disabilities in Nepal, established in 1983. It has several programmes including a special school on the Khagendra Campus. The Khagendra Home is a continuation of the Ryd... er Cheshire Home started in 1984 , with the vision of enabling people with disabilities to live as full as life as possible, promoting their independence and individual choices. Khagendra Home is a residential facility for people in Nepal with physical disabilities. Our Home is able to offer residents a wheelchair friendly place to live, where many can be fully independent in all aspects of daily living. For those who need help, there is Nursing care, Physiotherapy, and our dedicated and our experienced team of helpers and the project is led by Manager Surya Gurung. The Home is LOCATED on the Khagendra New Life Center campus at Jorpati, 8 Kms east of central Kathmandu. Also on site are the NDA special school, BIA craft centre, the Nepal Orthopaedic Hospital, and SOS childrens village for children with disabilities. Our RESIDENTS come from many different backgrounds and they live with a range of disabilities including paraplegia, cerebral palsy, and genetic conditions. We have an open age group criteria. People with disabilities may join us to live in an environment designed for their needs while they study, or learn skills in craft works, or else to access Nursing care, Physiotherapy, or continue Rehabilitation Some come for a short period, while others stay several years, and in some cases remain long-term if living at home would be impossible. Residents who are self funded pay Rs 6000 per month to cover food and lodging expenses, while some are sponsored by the Nepal Government, or by donors.
