About KCARES
KCARES was established by local residents to support wind energy and other renewable energy sources in Kitittas County as long-term sources for economic development, clean air, and tax revenue for local services. KCARES has monitored and participated in the permitting efforts for the Kittitas Valley Wind Power Project located in Kittitas County. Following the Kittitas County Commissioners' rejection, the developer requested the Energy Facility Site Evaluation Council (EFSEC) pre-empt the County government and approve the project. In March, after years of study, EFSEC recommended to Governor Christine Gregoire that she approve the KV project. Much to KCARES' dismay, on June 22nd, Governor Gregoire sent the matter back to EFSEC, asking the agency to further investigate an issue already exhaustively addressed during the process - the economic feasibility of increasing the established setbacks beyond 1800 feet between the turbines and residences located outside the project area.
