KC Water ensures the accessibility and quality of water services to meet the growing needs of our region by investing in the future of our water, wastewater, and stormwater systems. Our focus is on providing a high quality product and excellent experience to our customers today as we prepare for the water needs of future generations. KC Water maint... ains and operates water collection, treatment, and distribution systems; wastewater collection and treatment systems; and stormwater management systems for 170,000 residential and business customers in Kansas City and for 32 wholesale customers in the Kansas City region. The operation is funded by fees charged to customers based on their use or impacts on the water, wastewater, and stormwater utility systems. We operate and maintain almost 2,800 miles of water mains in Kansas City. Lined up end-to-end, these pipes would stretch from New York, NY to Los Angeles, CA. Kansas Citys original water and sewer infrastructure was laid in 1874, and some of this pipe is still in use today. We continue to reinvest in Kansas Citys infrastructure by strategically replacing critical systems each year. The pipes we are laying today are estimated to last another 100 years, or more. Kansas Citys Water Treatment Plant is able to produce up to 240 million gallons of water each day. To ensure that every drop of high quality water we deliver to your tap is safe and healthy, we test an average of 60 water samples per day, taken from throughout Kansas City, for over 300 contaminants.Read More
