This growth will be achieved by increasing the area under cane and productivity of the exciting outgrowers as well as registering new farmers. Kakira and the Busoga Sugar Cane Growers Association have established the Kakira Outgrowers Rural Development Fund (KORD). Both the farmers and the company support the fund by the way of per ton contributions related to volume of their cane supply. KORD are identifying and implementing several infrastructure projects and provide financial services to the Kakira community. Initial projects include provision of loans to Outgrowers as well as development of in-field access roads and health care facuilities for the area.
