Signature By Signature...Block By Block...Book By Book! My Ancestors, Teachers & Apache Basket Provide Inspiration & Help! Libraries raise quality of life, encourage success in schools & provide lifelong learning. They bring communities together. Libraries are under siege! Jo's Library Quilt was launched to help our little community help our little... library...we can't depend on tax dollars alone! Folks across 26 states helped "accessorize" our NEW Library! The Drawing was held July 22nd, 2011. Winners of the three (3) giveaways (shown below) were thrilled! Thanks to all for your support & donations! Let me tell you about Jos Library Quilt. My name is Jo Garver. I live in Coalville, Utah, a small town in northeast Utah with a population of approximately 1400 people. Our community needed a LARGER library...we have for sometime! Our current county library is 900 sq. ft. and is housed in a city office room that we LEASE. We needed MORE SPACE in a BUILDING of our own! We needed a children's area. Our existing children's area consists of a little table with 3 chairs. We needed a larger study area with more computers and room to spread out reading material! We needed two checkout stations to better serve our patrons! In October of 2009, our monthly book club read an historical novel, The Sugar Camp Quilt by Jennifer Chiaverini. At first it sounded a little too "goody two-shoe" for me. But I learned not to judge a book by its' cover! Her main character, Dorothea Granger, created a quilt with authors' signatures incorporated into the quilt and it was sold to raise money to build a new library. Dorothea and the book have been one of the "tools" that have inspired me and helped me launch Jo's Library Quilt project with the hopes of raising funds for our community's LIBRARY that we so desperately need!!! In February of 2010, I began writing authors to ask them if they would participate in Jo's Library Quilt project by donating their autographs on a piece of fabric.
