John Fisher School

The John Fisher School was founded by Archbishop Amigo, Archbishop of Southwark, in 1929; the original premises were at Duppas Hill in Croydon. The school moved in 1931 to Peaks Hill, Purley, and until 1977 it was a fee-paying boys Grammar School. In that year it became a four form of entry, all-ability school maintained by the London Borough of Su... tton. On the 1st January 1992, it was incorporated as a Grant Maintained School. The first lay Headteacher, Mr. Terence King, was appointed in 1981. His successor, Mr. Robin Gregory, assumed office from January 1993 until his retirement in September 2005 when Mr. Pat Liddiard took over as Acting Headteacher. The present Headteacher, Mr. Mark Scully, took post in September 2006. At present there are 1030 students on roll, 243 of whom are Sixth Formers. In 1998 the School expanded to six forms of entry. In September 1999, it became a Voluntary-Aided school once more. In 2003 the school was designated a Sports College.Read More
