John B's Mart first opened its doors in February 2003 in NCS Dededo Guam by John and Thea Buhain, two hard-working Filipinos from Naic, Cavite, Philippines who relocated to Guam in 1990 after serving in the US Navy (John) for several years. Their humble beginnings in Guam included a small yellow food truck situated in the Dededo Public Health and S... ocial Services parking lot. After a successful run for 7 years as food truck owners, they were offered to manage a supermarket in Dededo, which flourished during their 7-year tenure. The couple's unremitting diligence, dedication to their profession and financial acuity afforded them the opportunity to invest and build their own brick & mortar business--a grocery store offering everyday merchandise, local produce, as well as assorted fresh seafood, oriental spices, and delectable snacks & desserts flown in regularly from the Philippines. A space in NCS Dededo, with very little parking and hidden from plain sight seemed like a bad choice externally, but John and Thea saw a diamond in the rough. The choice of store name came easily after being referred to as "John B" at John's former employment. Subsequently, patrons in Dededo, Yigo, Barrigada, Tamuning, Agat, Santa Rita, Talafofo and other southern villagers began frequenting the popular speciatly store most especially during their shipment days of live crabs and other fresh seafood. Their customer base grew exponentially throughout the years holding a strong position in the niche market. In 2009, John and Thea successfully opened a second store in the heart of Yigo. Sadly, John was diagnosed with a severe heart condition in 2011 and underwent multiple heart surgeries, which forced him to sell the Yigo store and into retirement.
