Throughout his youth, Joel played baseball and was always a great athlete who put as much effort into practice as he did game time performances. While attending Cypress College, his team won the state championship and he learned a great deal about himself through the sport. Drive is ingrained in me, Joel says. He ultimately graduated from Cal State Fullerton and then set his sights on real estate. At first, he worked alongside his father to learn the ropesthe Kott family traditions of exceptional servicebut he knew that true success would only come when he ventured out on his own and created his own opportunities.
