Jeremiah Pick founded the company's company in 1993. Jeremiah's vision was to create a specialty roaster committed to supplying the highest quality fresh-roasted coffee to fine food, high-end grocery stores, premier restaurants and hotels on the West Coast. Jeremiah spent eight years working for a family-owned coffee roasting company located in the heart of the region that started the specialty coffee revolution, the North Beach district of San Francisco. This experience taught Jeremiah the rules that guide the Company today: 1. Work with socially and environmentally responsible growers, and establish long-term relationships for the supply of exceptional quality green beans. A balance of strong relationships with buying cooperatives and individual estate growers is essential to procuring the highest quality beans and providing price protection when world coffee prices fluctuate. 2. Create a product that is special. The Company selects the highest quality whole bean coffees that are then crafted by skillful roasters. Jeremiah personally inspects and tastes each harvest to ensure the fundamental characteristics of the coffees-varietal or blended-are maintained. 3. Use only the finest equipment available. In 1995, the Company purchased a three-bag roaster, the first of its kind in North America. This roaster, built in Brazil to strict European engineering and design standards, re-circulates heat and removes smoke and chaff.
