We, the members of RAGE, want to make aware, inform and educate the residents of Middletown, Holmdel, Hazlet, Aberdeen and Red Bank on the proposed installation of high power lines along the NJ Transit line. We want to garner support to stop the project, actively and diligently work through legal and political action to prevent the construction of... the proposed line. We, as a group, believe there are numerous harmful effects to both human life and property value that far outweighs any claimed need for the project by JCP&L and their parent company First Energy. We believe there are viable alternatives to these enormous structures being built through dense populated areas and are calling on all concerned citizens to lend us your ideas, suggestions and time. Help us stand up to Giant Electric and let our voice be heard, keep our skylines free of these monstrosities and keep ourselves and children free from their harmful exposure. What is RAGE? We are a group of concerned citizens who have come together to fight JCP&Ls plan to install 10 miles of new high voltage power lines above the NJ TRANSIT rail line from the Matawan-Aberdeen train station to the Red Bank train station. Why are we fighting? We are fighting because of the devastating consequences this project would have on our communities, given that the route they selected runs through densely populated neighborhoods in Hazlet, Holmdel, and Middletown: JCP&L wants to put up over 100 giant monopoles to carry the 230,000 volt overhead lines. Each pole would be between 13 and 21 stories (130-210 feet) high. The route JCP&L has chosen goes through residential areas, much more densely populated than typical power line routes. These poles and lines would run above 3 elementary schools, 2 senior living communities, a historic district, and a nature preserve. Given their scale, the poles and lines would be visible from great distances, marring the look and feel of our towns.
