For over a decade, Jacksonville Heart Center has been providing the highest level of cardiac care to their patients. Without the efforts of the founding physicians as well as JHC's additional physicians, JHC would not be the success it is today and continue to care for cardiac patients. Dr. Joel Schrank was the leading founder of Jacksonville Heart... Center back in the early 1990s, and along with the vision of Dr. William Wainwright, JHC has been able to consider itself one of the leading cardiology practices in the southeast. This endeavor began in 1979 when Dr. Schrank left 12 years of academic medicine to come to Jacksonville to create a cardiac medical and surgical program for Baptist Health. He worked in a solo practice for three years until he was successfully able to recruit a new cardiac surgeon in 1982 by promising him an excellent surgical program. In years following proof of a successful program, Dr. Schrank was able to add to his practice making Dr. Paul Farrell, Dr. David Hassel and Dr. Marc Litt his first partners. The group felt it was time for further expansion to adequately uphold the level of care each physician was delivering to their patients. Dr. Schrank set out to find the right physician to join his colleagues and practice. One Sunday morning in 1992 Dr. Schrank met with Dr. Wainwright and found they not only shared the same values and practice style for cardiology and medicine as a whole, but both envisioned joining together to become one practice able to serve all of Jacksonville. After several months of negotiating with the assistance of Baptist Health, Jacksonville Heart Center was officially formed on February 28, 1993.
