In 1981 ISI Sementi was founded by Florindo Boni and his partners. The founders of the Company had a long experience in the marketing of seeds of a wide range of horticultural species and also in the production and selection of a large number of standard varieties of Industry tomatoes and onions. Their experience and their professional skills forme... d the basis for the rapid growth of ISI Sementi. Right from the beginning, it was felt necessary to start a breeding program to develop hybrid tomato varieties for the processing industry for the domestic and export market. In 1984 ISI Sementi initiated an important breeding program. Year after year a growing number of competitive varieties were put on the market resulting in our current almost complete assortment. Nowadays, the assortment of varieties for the processing industry fulfils the needs of most different markets with regard to technological as well as disease resistance requirements. In reference to the breeding program of tomatoes for the fresh market, ISI Sementi has developed a large number of mainly determinate varieties, varying from the tiny "cherry" to hybrids with a heavy fruit-weight. The onion breeding program was started when the tomato breeding program was already some years on the way. ISI Sementi obtained a strong position among other major players on the domestic market, thanks to quite a few successful varieties. Also abroad in some market-segments, ISI Sementi has realized this position. Our actual assortment of cultivars represent different types of bulbs: yellow, white and red, different maturities: from early to late, and some varieties with very good storage quality. Moreover, with regard to the different latitudes, ISI Sementi created varieties suitable for autumn and spring sowing.
