Isabel Hospice

Isabel Hospice is a registered charity which provides free palliative care and support for patients and their families living with cancer and other life-limiting illnesses such as MND, end stage renal conditions, end stage heart conditions, respiratory conditions or other neurological conditions, throughout eastern Hertfordshire. The population we... serve is almost 350,000 people. Care is based on the simple idea that patients are ordinary people living with physical, social, emotional and spiritual needs. The Hospice provides enormous support to families and friends, caring for the patients and all those around them. Last year we cared for 1,349 patients and 2,514 family members. When were we founded and what do we now do? Founded in 1982 the Hospice provides a wide range of services including an In-Patient Hospice in Welwyn Garden City which can accommodate up to 15 patients, Day Service locations in Welwyn Garden City, Bishop's Stortford and Stanstead Abbotts, a Home Care Team providing support and nursing care in patients' homes, and a Family Support and Bereavement Service. A fully trained team of volunteers support our specialist medical and clinical teams, ensuring that patients and their families receive the best possible care. In addition, Isabel Hospice's team of 12 Isabel Nurse Specialists, work closely with all local GPs, and are available to give advice and support to patients and their families and to refer them to appropriate parts of the Hospice as necessary. How much does it all cost? All our services are free of charge, and the cost of providing these services is budgeted at £4.5 million.
