About Ipen

Acts as executor of the constitutional mission of the National Nuclear Energy Commission to receive and deposit the radioactive waste generated by radioactive and nuclear facilities in Brazil, according to Federal Law 7781 of 1989. In this context, it is responsible for receiving, processing and storage of radioactive waste generated in nuclear applications in the State of São Paulo and southern Brazil, which represents approximately 80% of institutional waste generated in the country. In addition to these, depending on certain factors, also receives waste from other Brazilian states. The GRR provides also an essential service for the operation of IPEN's research laboratories and has played an important role in the development of technologies for the management of radioactive waste and the training of qualified personnel. Currently, GRR has 12 collaborators, seven researchers, six technicians, one administrative assistant, and graduate fellows and scientific research. MissionExplore more
