UWMilwaukee's Innovative Weather gives the next generation of meteorologists hands-on experience in operational meteorology and professional job skills by partnering with weather sensitive, community and business partners throughout southeastern Wisconsin and the Midwest. Innovative Weather students and staff also provide Milwaukee radio listeners with accurate and in-depth weather forecasts on 89.7 WUWM as well as public forecasts through this website and social media. The Innovative Weather mission is three-fold: Give advanced UWM students the tools and hands-on meteorological experiences to build the professional skills to positively impact their communities. Provide local and regional organizations with high-quality forecast services tailored to their specific needs and objectives. Explore and expand the boundaries of weather research by applying innovative research methods to real-world issues. Innovative Weather hires UW-Milwaukee students pursuing degrees in atmospheric science or related fields. Employees develop skills in short- and long-range forecasting, broadcasting, and client communication as they progress from intern to meteorologist. Our rigorous 24/7 schedule prepares students for the demands of a career in meteorology. Our students also receive excellent training to acquire the soft skills that so many companies are seeking.
