In November 2009, The Industry Voice (TIV) made its debut as an e-mail newsletter and became an instant hit in the Hollywood dance industry, as well as numerous parts of the world. What began as a portal for founder, Aliya Perry, to communicate with friends and family on the East coast, led to a hunger for more truth, knowledge and inspiration from... peers, artists, mentors and even celebrities. The initial task was simple: to learn as much about the dance industry as possible, while remaining vulnerable enough to share the personal journey of making it as a professional dancer/choreographer. Readers praised the authentic vibe behind the publication, the personal tone, the power to ask and answer questions many never thought of and the warm invitation to share their own artistic stories. Popularity increased through simple word of mouth and e-mail forwards on the Internet. The fuse was lit, and TIV became a powerhouse publication. Its readership jumped from a few hundred, to a few thousand readers across the world, in just its first year. And this just through several social media sites including Facebook, Twitter and sign-ups for the e-newsletter.
