Indage is the oldest producer in India and has been the pioneer of the revitalisation of India's vineyards which, like the vast majority of European vineyards, were destroyed by Phylloxera in the 1890's. India has a history of winemaking going back to prehistoric times so cannot be considered a new world producer; hence the wines are being marketed... as ‘new' old world wines. Indage kick-started the Indian wine revolution in the 1980s with a particularly appetising methode traditionelle fizz sold on the local market as Marquise de Pompadour but exported with considerable success as Omar Khayyam. The team at HMWSA is looking to replicate this success with Indage's excellent Reserve wines, which are produced from grapes grown in the high Sahyadri Valley of western Maharashtra.
