When I was a young Air Force Captain assigned to the Pentagon, a four-star General asked my orientation class, Why are you here? He then provided the answer, You are here for your mind. Youre here to tell me what you think, not what you think I want to hear. That shaped my point of view through my military career and into my consulting career. I believe it is important to respectfully and candidly give others the benefit of various perspectives and to bring the right solutions to the dialogue, even when those solutions are difficult to discuss or challenging to implement.
