Local 229 was formed in 1918 by a handful of local electrical workers who all live and work in York & Adams counties. Our partner contractors are members of the National Electrical Contractors Association (NECA) which represents the unionized electrical contractors. NECA workers on your job site mean experience, excellence, reliability, and the best safety records in the industry. The long-standing alliance between IBEW and NECA ensures an adequate supply of well trained, highly skilled, and productive electricians to meet the needs of the electrical construction industry. The IBEW and NECA joined together in the 1940's to create the National Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee, the NJATC. Since its creation, the NJATC has developed into what is perhaps the largest apprenticeship and training program of its kind. The NJATC apprenticeship is the premier electrical apprenticeship program in North America! Through the NJATC, we attract the most qualified electrical apprentices in the country.
