There are at least 300 Veterans on death row, representing about 10 percent of the nation's death row population. Four out of five Veterans reported recent symptoms of PTSD 20-25 years after Vietnam. In a study of Veterans from Iraq and Afghanistan diagnosed with PTSD or major derpression, only about half had received treatment in the past year. For a small but significant number of Veterans returned from Vietnam, Afghanistan and the Middle East with PTSD, their mental wounds contribute to their committing act of violence and they are now on death row; many others with similar problems have already been executed.
