Carroll Stein founded HRC in 1968 and is a licensed psychologist in Minnesota. Previously, he was a member of a consulting firm with offices in Chicago, Milwaukee, and Minneapolis. His first organizational experience was with Control Data as Director of Corporate Policy and Communications. He received his Ph.D. from the University of Minnesota, maj... oring in psychology and earning a minor in statistics and research design. He has been a faculty member at the University of Minnesota (MA - Industrial Relations program) and at the University of St. Thomas (MBA program). Dr. Stein's areas of specialization include executive assessment, test validation research, organizational development, and he has implemented objective-based performance management programs in a wide variety of organizations. His publications include studies on objective management, development trends, career counseling, aptitude test validation, and employee attitude survey norms. Tom Buchner is a Certified Management Consultant with 20 years of active consulting experience, both internal and independent. He received and MBA from the University of Minnesota in 1987, the same year that he launched his own consulting practice specializing in quality improvement and measurement for service organizations. At that time Tom also joined the faculty of the Management Center at the University of St. Thomas Graduate School of Business. He continues to teach classes on subjects including quality management, business performance measurement, and operations management. Tom's focus with HRC clients is on improving performance management skills and related management behaviors and practices. He leads performance management system redesign efforts and also heads HRC's employee survey work. Both areas keep him engaged with the struggles and challenges faced by supervisors and managers as they strive to achieve results and provide leadership.
