Founded in 1980, HRC advocates on behalf of LGBTQ Americans, mobilizes grassroots actions in diverse communities, invests strategically to elect fair-minded individuals to office and educates the public about LGBTQ issues. HRC Chicago is led by a team of volunteers called a Steering Committee: volunteers who chair one or more Subcommittees and make up the leadership team of the local HRC community. The Steering Committee is comprised of both Board members and other HRC volunteer leaders appointed by the Board to specific roles.
