Beyond Housing

Since 1975, Beyond Housing has served as a comprehensive community development organization dedicated to strengthening low-income neighborhoods through affordable housing, homeownership services, and family support programs. The organization's mission centers on empowering residents and families to achieve long-term economic stability and self-suff... iciency by providing integrated services spanning housing solutions, support for families and seniors, community asset building, and neighborhood revitalization initiatives. Beyond Housing operates as a community-driven catalyst, working across multiple service lines to address interconnected challenges facing underserved populations. In 2009, the organization launched the 24:1 Initiative, an innovative, place-based community development program operating within the geographic boundaries of the Normandy Schools Collaborative. This comprehensive initiative emerged from extensive community engagement, including a planning process that involved over 100 participants and more than 52 community meetings with approximately 400 attendees, resulting in a unified vision across 24 municipalities focused on building strong communities, engaging families, and supporting successful children. A cornerstone of the 24:1 Initiative is a universal kindergarten savings account program through which Beyond Housing secured funding to establish $500 MOST 529 College Savings Accounts for every child enrolling in kindergarten within the Normandy Schools Collaborative, with Beyond Housing serving as the account owner and administrator. The initiative represents a scalable model for addressing systemic barriers to economic mobility by combining housing stability, family services, educational support, and asset-building opportunities in a coordinated, neighborhood-focused approach.
