Host Nottingham

HOST Nottingham formed in 2011 as a response to the growing number of destitute asylum seekers and refugees needing housing support across Nottingham. The charity sought to provide a referral into temporary accommodation for asylum seekers and refugees utilising individuals spare rooms, as well as providing a support network for those already infor... mally hosting asylum seekers and refugees. Since that time, Host Nottingham has grown to host many asylum seekers and refugees and has developed their support beyond hosting to include: a Clothes Bank, advocating for a just asylum system as well as providing practical support. Host Nottingham is more than just hosting! An asylum seeker is someone who has fled their home country because they faced persecution and it was no longer safe for them to remain there. Upon arrival in the UK, asylum seekers then have to navigate the very complicated and lengthy asylum process and if refused, can face homelessness. Hosting asylum seekers in this position provides them with a safe place within which to continue the asylum process. Newly Recognised Refugees only have 28 days to find new accommodation. For many, this is not sufficient time, which can therefore leave refugees homeless. Hosting a refugee during this time allows them to look for more permanent accommodation. Host Nottingham supports Asylum Seekers and Refugees during a very stressful and worrying time.
