Highways, Inc. was founded in 1960 in Brentwood, Tennessee by Don Dean as a grading, storm drainage, and earthmoving contractor. As the grading division of the company continued to grow, the company has developed an asphalt division, bridge division, and a sand manufacturing division.The company has completed hundreds of projects. These projects ha... ve included earthwork, storm drainage, asphalt paving, base stone, curbing, striping, sewer, water lines, electrical work, concrete, retaining walls, and bridges. Over the years the company has moved millions of cubic yards of earth on the company's grading projects. These projects have included large state highway projects, site developments for large corporations, and federally funded projects. Also, the company has laid thousands of miles of storm and sewer pipe on these projects. Along with the company's extensive experience in earthwork, the company has also laid millions of tons of base stone and asphalt. On average the company will lay 2.5 million tons of base stone per year and 750,000 tons of asphalt. The company own and operate five individual asphalt plants with the capability of producing asphalt from the Kentucky state line to the Georgia state line and from Rockwood, Tennessee to Carthage, Tennessee. Along with the company's grading and paving division, the company operates a bridge division capable of constructing bridges of all sizes.
