Hi Fert was established in South Australia in 1984, distributing just 200 tonnes of fertilizer in its first year. Today, Hi Fert is one of Australiaacturers and distributors, with an extensive distribution network covering eastern Australia and distributing over 600,000 tonnes of fertilizer each year, and growing. nbsp,With its head office in Melbo... urne, Victoria, Hi Fert became a joint venture operation in 2004 when its former owner WMC Resources sold two-thirds of the company to ELF Australia Pty Limited, formed by Landmark (an AWB Limited Company) and Elders (a subsidiary of Futuris Corporation). With the acquisition of WMC Resources by BHP Billiton in 2005, the one third of Hi Fert owned by WMC Resources moved to BHP Billiton. In December 2005, BHP Billiton divested its one third share to ELF Australia Pty Limited giving 100% ownership of Hi Fert to this joint venture. In April 2005 Hi Fert announced a substantial expansion in its fertilizer distribution capacity with the acquisition of the assets of east coast fertilizer supply company Summit Rural Australia Pty Ltd (Summit) from Sumitomo. The acquisition of Summit extended the reach of Hi Ferto Queensland and northern New South Wales giving Hi Fert comprehensive coverage of the east coast of Australia and added fertilizer storage capacity exceeding 100,000 tonnes.
