About Hepatitis Education Project
It is with immense love and profound sadness that the Hepatitis Education Project remembers and honors our friend and colleague, Zakat "Z" Abduz Zahir. A native of Washington DC, former resident of Vancouver BC, and long-time Seattleite, Z was born on June 14, 1951 and died on July 5, 2020. A dedicated member of the local harm reduction community, Z volunteered with the People's Harm Reduction Alliance (PHRA) for a decade and joined HEPs staff in 2017 as our Peer Outreach Worker. He was an advocate for the health of people who use drugs and people impacted by viral hepatitis, having been cured of hepatitis C. He was a passionate musician who released multiple albums and toured the world with his bands. Z was witty and opinionated, and his charismatic presence is reflected in the diverse relationships he built throughout his life. He is survived by his family and community who love him unconditionally and will honor his memory by continuing his work.Explore more
