Help Up

Single parents live difficult lives trying to fulfill both parental rolls, while trying to maintain a good paying job that can support the family unit. The result of trying to do it all is they often have poor job attendance and dependability records. For this reason, they are usually the first to be let go during downsizing cycles. Employers dont... like having to terminate single parents because they are typically very hard workers when they are present. (They need that job!) They also feel a heavy moral burden from having to do so. As the parent goes from job to job, many times having to move the family to find employment, their children go from school to school. Many times children of single parents achieve poor grades, develop attitude problems, and are usually behind their peers in development. This puts the entire family unit in a downward spiral. We are going to stop the downward spiral and help single parents keep meaningful employment by providing Surrogate Parent supervision for their children while the parent is at work. The children will be picked up from school by a Help Up employee and taken to their home, where they will be supervised until the parents gets home from work. On the days where the child is not able to finish the school day due to illness, Help Up will pick them up from school. These services will allow the parent to focus on work; while they are on the job. We are going to target single parents who are not drug or alcohol dependent.
