Heirloom Harvest is a nonprofit organization working to grow the Alabama food economy and use it as a vehicle to combat our state's most pressing socioeconomic challenges. Alabama is home to a long and rich farming tradition, yet we have also seen our fair share of poor economic conditions and limited outlets for affordable, healthy food options. H... eirloom Harvest believes that with a more focused effort on "living locally", we can revitalize some of our most impoverished regions and boost the health of our most impoverished citizens. The nutrient rich and flavorful food that Alabama farmers grow ends up being sold all over the country after being handed over to a regional broker when there are consumers right in our own back yards who need greater access to fresh fruits and vegetables.
