It all started in 2012 when I started seeing adorable and funny pictures of hedgehogs popping up all over the internet. I soon found and brought home my 1st adorable little bundle of quills. and quickly realized how unprepared I really was. Since then I have joined hedgehog community groups and forums and done extensive research of my own. I have l... earned a lot along the way. I started noticing how often owners find themselves in the same situation I was, with this cute little spikey hissy creature but no idea what to do with it or how to care for it. Many owners soon realize a hedgehog isnt right for them or their family. Others are given bad advice or make assumptions on how to care for him that become detrimental to the animals well-being. I discovered a need for people to have correct care information, support, and a safe trusted place for the hedgehog to go if they are not able to care for him. In January 2014, I found a hedgehog whose owner was trying to trade her for drugs. The owner admitted the hedgehog had been passed around among several owners, mostly teens who werent providing adequate care and passed her off among friends. I paid a $100 ransom fee to get her to safety. This hedgehog lost an eye from an untreated infection, and never got care for it. She had skin sores and tattered ears from a mite infestation. She was severely obese from not being allowed to move around and had raw chafed skin from the fat folds. She had quills, fur, and skin burned off and raw from urine burn. This girl was dirty, scabby, infected, untrusting, and terrified. I named her Hope, and Hedgehog Haven was born.
