Health Connected, a San Francisco Bay Area-based nonprofit organization, is a leader in sexual health education, serving more than 10,000 youth annually. With a community-wide approach to adolescent health, our mission is to help young people feel confident and supported to make informed decisions about their sexual health. We accomplish this throu... gh three program areas: Youth Services in-school puberty and sexuality education for students ages 10-19 Parent Services interactive workshops for parents of adolescents and pre-adolescents on parent-child communication surrounding sexuality, sexual health, and relationships Training & Technical Assistance training and technical assistance for education and clinical professionals Health Connected's programs were born in direct response to the issues facing Bay Area youth. Today, its curricula are designed to be easily adapted to meet the needs of various communities nationwide. Health Connected's five curricula align with California's Healthy Youth Act, making it one of the few in compliance with the inclusive law. We are also responding to the needs of vulnerable populations, with curricula specific to students with special needs and those facing adversities. But we are striving for more. Today, sex education has the potential to be powerfully transformative. With comprehensive sexual health programs that acknowledge both the social-emotional and biological aspects of sexual development, we can help youth build relationships rooted in respect, cultivate empathy, and develop skills to forge lifelong ethical relationships.
