HaRUNbee

Originally organized by the HaRUNbee planning committee by way of the United Way of Greater Milwaukee & Waukesha County, the mission of the HaRUNbee Walk/Run is to promote wellness by encouraging families to stay healthy and fit, both mentally and physically. In 2012, The Harambee neighborhood had the 2nd highest rate of infant mortality in the cit... y of Milwaukee, and African American babies are 3 times more likely to die than Caucasian babies. In 2016, 88 babies died in the city as a whole. According to the 2017 City of Milwaukee Fetal Infant Mortality Review Report, leading risk factors that caused deaths were premature births, obesity and infections. Now Organized by the National Coalition for Healthy Black Families, Inc. , we want to generate engagement of the community by bringing all ages and all races together internally as well as surrounding neighborhoods outside the Harambee community for a Walk/Run. With our 6th year in 2021, we aim to continue to partner with the City of Milwaukee and Bronzeville Week. This year's goal is to reach participation from the whole Milwaukee County and beyond.
