Short speed made the original Quarter Horse ~ King of Versatility. Old school racing pedigrees have never gone out of style in the rope horse or barrel horse arena or on the ranch. Cow sense is never optional! Our program is based on line-breeding to AQHA Hall of Fame Stallion, Joe Hancock P455, with an emphasis on his sons Buck Hancock, Red Man and grandson ~ Blue Valentine. Joe Hancock was famous for his racing speed. He stood open to the world and was the first Quarter Horse to break the 22 second quarter mile. It was Joe Hancocks ability to sire speed and performance winners that put him in a class all his own and eventually into the AQHA Hall of Fame. That his blood also made top-notch ranch horses was a given based on his solid structure. Joe Hancock was considered a BIG quarter horse in his day yet stood just 15.2 or 3 and weighed approx. 1300+ lbs. Time and myth have turned him into a giant. His get generally ranged in size from 14.3 to 15.2/3 based on advertisements and articles written by those who actually put their hands on him and his sons & daughters and grand get. They were winners from cutting to steer tripping and on the race track. Other Quarter Horse sires of speed who have stood the test of time and are important to our program are Leo, Gold King Bailey, Driftwood, Grey Badger II, Joe Reed II and Sugar Bars. Each of these stallions proved themselves as successful racehorses before they became legendary sires. All these stallions except Gold King Bailey have been inducted in the AQHA Hall of Fame. Gold King Bailey sired a dynasty for Guy Ray Rutland, who was the leading breeder of racing Quarter Horse register of merits for nearly 40 years.
